Do you plan to have an engagement photo shoot? This outing usually kicks off the excitement of your pre-wedding activities while also being one of the most long-lasting mementos of your engagement. So know how to dress and accessorize in order to make the best photos possible. What jewelry tips should you apply when preparing for your engagement photo shoot? Discover five important ones.

1. Don't Distract From the Ring

Certainly, one of the most important features in any engagement photo shoot is the engagement ring. This is your most important piece of jewelry included, and nothing should take away from it. For this reason, many couples prefer to use daintier pieces like stud earrings, a classic watch, or a pendant necklace so as to keep the attention on the ring.

2. Avoid Too Many Layers

Generally, your jewelry choices should be simple in nature and contain fewer individual pieces. This isn't just to avoid competing with the ring but also to achieve better overall photos.

How could multiple items get in the way? Layers of necklaces or bracelets may cause unnecessary problems when planning particular shots. And too much jewelry all around the upper body could confuse the eye of the viewer as to where to pay attention in photos. Finally, this will make clothing and accessory choices for this event harder or more stressful than they need to be.

3. Bring an Extra Item or Two

While you don't want to overdo jewelry for the actual photos, many couples are advised to bring extra options to the photo shoot. These provide variety and interest for the various pictures and settings. Switching out one necklace for another necklace preserves the simplicity of your look but could work better for a change in location, a change in shirt, or a change in lighting.

At the very least, if your original pieces don't end up making you happy in the moment, you have a backup plan.

4. Avoid Trends But Express Yourself

What type of jewelry pieces should you wear? First, try to avoid being too trendy. The problem with following trends is that they can easily date your photos when those trends disappear again. With the rise in remote socialization during 2020, for instance, large statement jewelry trended. But if your engagement photos are too caught up in this, you may end up looking back and only seeing those pieces.

Even though you do want to avoid quick-fading trends, this doesn't mean you can't choose items that express your personality. A timeless piece could be something that's been in your jewelry box longer or something you've wanted for many years. It can - and should - still be tailored to your style and taste rather than too generic.

5. Don't Be Too Matchy

Couples should be careful to avoid letting the idea of coordination in outfits turn into matching way too closely. Why? This is an easy way to distract from the photo and could easily date your look within a few years. While this advice generally revolves around clothing choices, this can also involve jewelry.

Your partner's jewelry shouldn't be exactly like yours but should instead blend nicely. This may mean the same metal hues but individual styles of bracelets, watches, necklaces, or earrings. Or this could mean similar motifs - like organic or natural elements - without being the same colors or shapes.
